The project was developed in one of my visual communication design courses, where we had to think about a conference and accompany it from start to finish as designers. That means I was responsible for the logo, instructions on how to use it, business cards, a brochure, a lanyard, a poster that works on both sides, a button and a bag.
The whole thing should fit the desired target group and follow a consistent language in the design, so that one always has a clear recognition value in the individual objects. The design should also match and reflect the content of the conference.
The design should look young and modern, as the topic of exchange is more for people who are still studying and dealing with this topic. As a colour scheme, I decided on a money-orange tone, as it is often associated with the summer feeling of travelling. As a neutral contrast colour, I worked with a dark grey, also because it made the other colours stand out more. I called the whole thing simply "Abroad", because it should be easy to understand what it's about. The tagline "Manual for Internationals" was just to underline this. The logo is a paper aeroplane and an A, a mixture of the first letter of the conference and a reference to flying.
All objects should be directly connected, the viewer should immediately recognise the visual language, which is why I chose rather simple solutions for objects like the button or the bag. To compensate for this, I integrated several levels in the brochure and the poster. The most important is the poster. This functions as such and has one side with a more traditional design, while the other side has a special twist that rounds off the whole project. The poster can be folded as a paper aeroplane, and in doing so, the logo as well as the information remain perfect and legible.
The research was relatively simple, as I was already very deep in the topic through my exchange and therefore had most of the information or knew where to get it. I then had to find a topic focus that made sense for my conference. I focused on the problems students face in the process of going abroad. It's supposed to be a kind of guide that takes you through all the stages of the application process. That means it covers topics like funding, planning, applying, housing and more.
